We are a local Pistol Club community with an indoor and outdoor shooting range. Our focus is on coaching, training, and promoting gun safety.
Our Story
About
The Port Macquarie Pistol Club was formed in 1969. It originally operated from a range on Cathie Road and moved to its present site in Lady Nelson Drive in 1987.
Club History
Membership in 1987 was 35 and grew to around 60 but fell to mid 30's following the gun buyback scheme in 1996. Club membership is presently in the 70’s for both male and female and encompasses a wide cross section of the community including people in professions, trade and technical areas, plus a number of retirees.
The club has produced its own champion competitors such as Nola Hodgson who defeated Patti Dench in a 1979 air pistol match. Patti had just returned from a second place in this match at the World shooting Championships. This win gave Nola the State Championship. Patti Dench won a Bronze medal in the Women’s Sport Pistol match at the Olympics in Los Angeles in 1984. There have been a number of state champions and some members travel to shoot at events around Australia. The majority of members shoot solely at the club.
